12 foot swells every 14 seconds. 8mph wind. Good ocean?

Way to close together. My rule of thumb is the height should be half the distance apart . Like 6 ft 12 sec,5 ft 10 sec .and that is still a bit iffy depending on your boat

I love 4' on 14s or 3' on 12s and wind under 10mph. But that's riding a 12' piece of plastic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would stay tied tight to the dock under those conditions. It's not just the swell height time factor, it's also the effect of a 12' swell as it approaches the bar. If you need to cross a bar to get to the ocean those 12' swells will be a lot taller at the bar. Be a good idea to check the tidal exchange, which is very important information on a bar crossing. What port are you thinking about using or is this a general question?

If you want some good information on ocean conditions and decision making check out the site below. The information it contains will shorten the learning curve and has the potential to save ones neck.

safe to say, Depot Bay closes at well under 12'. NOAA has the swell at 8' this morning and it's closed:

Good site Roger. Even Yaquina is restricted to 40' vessels.

Yup, she has really came up and the wind sealed the deal.... another day. 15 foot swell .... might have had to duck going under the bridge. LOL

Gulfstream has it dialed. Want timing at least twice the swell height, and personally I do not consider going if swells much more than 5 or 6 feet.
