Stewart Lake Corvallis

The one by HP. Can the public fish there? Has anyone before? Trying to expand my spots in the Corvallis area for the upcoming bass season:thumb: I've got a pretty good map of the area for spots, too. I might be willing to share through PMs ;)

I've lived here, since before HP was built. Also worked there, about dozen years ago. Not sure if was open to the public, in my youth. But fishing is definitely OFF limits, these days. I don't think it's posted. But Oregon does NOT require, any signage (for tresspassing). So stay away; if you wish to fish legally (and avoid tickes with fines).

Dang! Looks like it could hold some fish. Thanks for the heads up.

If you are not sure and there are no signs, I'd fish it. If someone tell you that you cannot fish there, then apologize and move on.

There is an 8' chain link fence with barbed wire on top around the place. Sorta hard to use the "my bad, I didn't see the signs" gambit in that situation.

Not only that; but fishing without permission is just plain dense. Just one phone call, from an anonymous tipster--and you'll get a ticket for tresspassing, from a cop! You also run the risk, of being shot at!

Haha shoot, shoulda drove by. I was looking on google maps. Yeah it's probably safe to say that fishing isn't welcome then.

Lol yeah, prolly not.

I usually go into street view on Google Earth if possible in those situations. Lets you see fences, gates, posted signs at access points o'ff most major roads, etc. Saves gas and wasted time if nothing else.

There really is next to nothing in Corvallis. Albany has several good public ponds (First lake, Second Lake, Waverly Pond and Freeway Lakes) are the best bets in the area for public water. Other than that, you are knocking on doors.

I've found quite a few good spots around Corvallis. The slough in south town is probably my favorite, I've pulled out a few big ones from there - good shore access as well as a good spot for the yak. I've actually caught a 24" pikeminnow out of there. I've caught smallmouth in numbers right before where the Mary's meets the Willy (a little sketchy..) - nothing over 12" though. I'm going to try that pond by the apartments in south town when the water warms up, too; I've heard it can produce some bass.
I'll agree that Albany has all the ponds. Freeway lakes is always a good time for me on a summer day at dusk with the yak. My girlfriend and I are moving soon and Albany is in the mix; I'd be happy with that with all the ponds they have!

I guess I have a pretty snotty idea of what constitutes a "good spot" lol

You are right, the slough is a good spot. Mary's is hella sketchy, dodging Rufus Q. Bumshitz down there. After the high water here a while back, it looks like the great Pacific garbage patch...

If you have a raft, tube, or toon...try the Kiger Island slough. It's also called, the Westfork Booneville Channel. Go south on Hwy. 99. Take the 1st left, past Rivergreen Ave. That puts you onto, Kiger Island Dr. In short odor, you'll come to a bridge. That's the slough, on the right. And it's drainage creek, on the left, that flows into the Willy. Bucketmouths, in the slough. And Smallies on the other side. You can fish the drainage side, from the rip rap along the bank.

P.S. There is also the Long Tom River, further south. It has all kinds of warmwater species.

Iv been all the way through kiger island in my pontoon. I don't recommend floating it unless you want an adventure. Seemed like the best water was at the end of it by the bridge.

Yes Shane; you're correct. The slough goes back a few hundred yards. But it's really rough going, any further back into. However, there is still fishable water in that first stretch--and easy to get in, and out.

Yup! That's the one I was referring to. I usually head there and bank it after work - there is that trail that leads to a good spot. Every once in a while I will take my kayak there under the bridge and have good luck along the weed line. All this talk is getting me too excited for spring!

THERE IS NO PUBLIC FISHING AT STEWART LAKE, HEWLETT PACKARD.
Fishing on Stewart Lake is only permitted by active HP employees and their accompanied guests. Regardless of any postings every entrance onto the property is marked with multiple signs that state "HP Private Property No Trespassing". If you go onto the property for anything other than HP business need you will be escorted from the property by security. It just happened yesterday.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would want to fish in a man-made pond next to an industrial manufacturing facility or where there are no immediate bathroom facilities?

The great outdoors is an "immediate bathroom" facility. If you can't appreciate throwing a wiz while marveling at the wonders of nature, you don't enjoy life.
