Steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula

Hi all, just wanted to share my trip up the Olympic Peninsula this last week.
I caught 8 steelhead from 8 to 17 pounds in a day and a half. Before the flames start let me say that there are no restrictions on the Quinault Indian reservation where I was fishing. This fish was bleeding bad when he was landed, so was harvested. Great place to fish.

Thats terrible that you would harvest a native! Shame on you! :naughty:

Sorry I had to thats a sweet fish! Good job. They look amazing when they get colored up like that. I have always wanted to fish some of those rivers but havent been able to take the road trip yet.

I was drifting roe. Caught one on a float and jig, but I guess I feel better when drifting old school style. I'll have to spend more time with the jig someday.

Very nice :)
Oh yeah, Quinault River below the lake ?
I've done that float.....winter steelhead holy grail.
Huge race of winter fish....20's are common.

Imagine having a river the volume of the Clackamas at winter flow, all to yourself. You must use a guide that is a Quinault tribe member to fish the lower river.

For the full meal deal, stay at the Quinault Lodge (Timberline Lodge era) .
