Went to dial in my new winter spey rod setup and rigged up a new Skagit head as well to go test it out tonight and hooked up a really hot buck tonight. Smashed my fly and headed nearly to the next run. Swung a October caddis intruder first... Nada. Then a dark purple/green body hobo spey my buddy tied up, still nothing. Then tied on a sculpting pattern I used typically for my trout spey and swung fairly deep. Bam! It was on. This has happened the last few timed for me in typical fall trout water I target singing flies. If you want to get on them and up the odds, I'd look into swinging with trout like behavior and techniques in mind.
