Siletz report?

Overheard some guys at Fishermans talking about the Siletz this morning. One guy was saying they have been just killing the chinook lately, other guy didn't seem as enthusiastic about it, but seemed like they were doing good over there as of late. Is it worth a shot over to the coast or were these guys blowing it out of proportion?

Way out of proportion. I've been talking with the guys at chinook bend (they sell my gear) and said it's been really slow. Also try calling Crock and see whats crackin. Last check they only had a dozen fish and zero at chinook bend. Also remember that the siletz is 1/day and 2 per year. if they are telling you I got 4 or 5 already they are full of c***. That river is beeing watched like a hawk. So there it is in a nut shell.

THANK YOU! I was thinking about bagging a drive over to the Deschutes to try the Siletz. I had a feeling these two might be telling some tall tales (so unlike fisherman though, right?). Glad you are on top of it Kodiak.

One guy was 40's, mustache & glasses, other guy older 60's, old scraggly white baseball hat. They were talking to a guy looking at Alvin's, older guy did most of the talking. said that 'those dont work where i fish, i been killing it using these (couldnt see what he was pointing at)", "everyones saying buoy 10 buoy 10, then heading to the siletz to get fish". "everyones pulling them out everyday". younger guy didn't say anything i dont think, but kept nodding in agreement. sounded convincing enough for me to post on here.

My guess is saterday that river is gonna be minus a couple. The siletz never really gets rolling until the end of sept.anymore. I usually judge the body of the run showing up by the harvest moon at the end of setp/oct. Sounds silly but the body of that run shows up with the pumper tides that moon phase creates.

overfished

overfished

wouldnt mind seeing that fishery shut down for a couple years to let some of those pigs do their thing so it can be good again. that fishery is now so over-fished, over-populated with boats that it will not produce what it did just 4-5 years ago..... just my .02 - if even worth that!!

Can't say I agree or disagree.. But if they closed just the Siletz it would put a LOT more pressure on all the other rivers such as the Yaquina and Alsea.
If they're gonna do anything just limit the number of fish you can harvest each year like they already have or close it completely and allow a small number of harvest on the coho. I'm talking only Oregon coastal rivers.

But i have heard the Siletz is going to be better than last year.

probably so

probably so

Yes your right - it would have to be a few of the others as well, to even out the pressure. Its a total pipe-dream anyhow, the state would see it as a loss of opportunity for harvest, less tag sales and the such. You wont see myself or a few others I know used to fish it - a few less rods certainly wont hurt!

I guess that after last year finding other opportunities that had STACKS of chinook and harvestable coho, there is way more to fish than the Siletz...

tight lines all!

Hit the Siletz yesterday with Wormosa. The silver fest is underway with a few nooks in the mix. Out of around 100 boats yesterday morning Only know of three fish caught some one said 5. Still not a lot of fish yet, but it will get better, but still better than last year. It is still probably 2-3 weeks from being good, and a month from being "hot".
