We're moving to Southern Oregon - Medford from the east coast. Trout here are smaller... and a 4 - 5 wt suffice. If my ambition is Steele and Salmon on the Rouge would you suggest a 7 or 8 wt? What is a good all around wt. rod for the area? For the smaller streams and rivers - 5 or 6wt should be sufficient?

I have only ever had one trout that I wanted a six, instead of my five weight for. The only benefit of a six, in my opinion, is that if you accidentally hook up with a steelhead, you might not kill it with your six weight.

As far as steelies/salmon, most folks say eight wt., but a seven might be more fun, unless you get into a super-toad.

Holy Cow MLW... nothing like some early morning Spey Rod porn to get me going. I have never seen their equipment prior, but it looks top-notch. I may have to consider plasma and/or kidney donations to get myself into one, but it might even be worth it.
