So i have had my hull on my little dinghy sanded down to what i think is the gel coat and my question is can i glass over the gel coat or do i have to sand the old gel coat completely away.:think:

do you want it to be a structual repair of cosmetic..... cosmetic repair yes just apply glass... structural,. keep sanding.... tie in to glass.. gel coat does not offer any strength and can flex causing the new glass to pop loose in rough useage.

If you need more strength you need to have the resin bond to resin and not the Gel! If it is cracked then feather the sanding to get into the original glass layers. You can also "drip" a very small amount of Acetone into the crack to fuse the resin again BUT let it completely dry before adding any more glass layers. You don't want soft resin inside the layers!
