The Magnuson-Stevens Act directly led to the MLPA and the resulting MPAs on our coasts which heavily affected inshore recreational fishing and not so much the commercial industry
This current Act reads as an attempt to separate commercial interests from recreational interests with the resulting studies aimed towards helping the recreational fisherman more than the commercial fisherman.
The National Fisherman is a commercial fishing organization.
I'm very pleased with the long overdue legislation. The recreational bottom fishing has long been tied to the commercial fishing. It will be good to have the separation. I hope they take a good look at how sports guys impact yellow eye rock fish. That is the main stock that curtails our offshore rec-bottom fishing.
