Abu Garcia has a lot of great reels, revo x is a good one for bass

You looking for a round reel or a low profile? I have a bunch of round reels, my favorite's. Most under rated of them I think is the daiwa Millionaire. Got it for $30 I think it was, when Joe's shut down. Wish I'd have bought every one they had! Not a low profile fan but do have two I got just for bullheads and small mouth bass. Both are Inexpensive Kastking reels. Got a 3# channel on one couple night's ago. Have three ABU's; a 5000, a 6500 C3 and a 2500, all really nice reels, my favorite, but they pretty much have me priced out of them now. Also have a Shakespere that is not my favorite by a long shot but the thing grew on me so it get's a reg turn fot cats. Have several old round direct drives, you'd have trouble finding one today and if your just learning, they would drive you crazy!

Ya know, my two Kastking low profile reels are on 6' ugly stick rods. Got them because they were inexpensive and happy with them. Just remembered another low profine reel I have Daiwa RG 100Hs. Don't know why I don't have it on a rod, been long time since it's been used! Looks like a nice reel so good reason to buy another casting rod. have no idea why I quit using this reel other than prefer round reels! No idea what they cost and clueless what I paid for it.

Yes; but steer clear of the models made in China (made with cheaper parts). Make sure it says "made in Sweden", which is stamped on the older models. All of today's models--available new at the shops these days--are likely made in China.Grant22 said:

@amelia1992 I may have a Daiwa Millionare and/or a Swedish made Abu Garcia that I could part with. But do you need a right, or left, hand retrieve model? All of mine are southpaws.

For $200 every major brand reel will be awesome. I prefer Daiwa and Shimano but own some ABU reels as well. I would compare reel weights and think about what retrieve ratio you want. Usually 6:1 is a good all round choice.

Do you reel with the right hand or cast with the right hand? You might need a left hand reel! I cast casting reels right handed but reel with my right hand also. I use what I think they call a left handed reel. Spinning reels same way. just the way I learned. have a right hand ABU but never use it. Tried but just couldn't get it done. You have right and left backwards. 6501 is a left handed reel. Reels are named by which hand turns the crank.DonF said:
That said I am the same as you. Casting reels I reel with my right hand and spinning reels I reel with my left. That's just how reels were made in the old days
