does anyone know if there's a lot of difference between a 3hp, 3.5hp and 4hp outboard?

Yea...

Yea...

About a hundred dollars for each 1 hp.....give or take 50 bucks. One piece of advice from someone that has already been through what you are dealing with now....you can never have to much power, and go with four stroke if you can.

well, i just got my motor... $200. it's a 1995 Force by Mercury - 2-stroke 5hp. very light - approx. 35 lbs - i can jog up and down the stairs with it. almost new looking - apparently less than 10 hours on the water. missing one part, just ordered online - costs $6.50.

now i just need my boat to arrive...
