John Day River Walton Lake

Spent the last few days with the fly rod on the water avoiding the heat. First two day were over at Cottonwood Canyon fishing bass on the John Day. Rocky desert like area but beautiful. The fishing was good but with the heat the swimming was better. Big green wooly bugers in slow water was the ticket.

The next stop was Walton Lake elevation about 5,400 feet up in the Ochoco forest. Lots of tall pondarosa pine trees and a bit of a breeze. Took the pontoon boat and fished black wooly buggers with a small soft hackle dropper. Being up that high in the mountains was a nice was to beat the heat, and the fishing was great. When we came back to Prineville it was 101 degrees. Guess we should have stayed at Walton Lake!

Sounds like a great trip Lonn! Minus the temp in Prineville. LOL

I used to slay trout with Buggers from my float tube, back in the day. It's such a great way to fish.

At least you returned home to a cool down.
