Oregon's Most Wanted list just got a new #1 bad guy

Emerald ash borers have been found in Oregon for the first time. These small, metallic green insects are considered the most destructive forest pests in North America.

What does this mean for fish and wildlife?

Oregon ash is commonly found as part of riparian forests and wetlands west of the Cascades and is widely used for stream restoration plantings, as it is very capable of stabilizing soil, controlling sentiment and moderating stream temps. These are key features in protecting fish, especially; and other wildlife dependent on these ecosystems. Widespread death of Oregon ash could lead to water quality issues and hotter stream temperatures.

What can be done about this?

It's important to learn to recognize these insects and report any sightings to the Oregon Invasive Species Hotline: https://oregoninvasiveshotline.org/reports/create
