iFish web site...a train wreck!

I've heard an occasional OFF member mention the iFish web site, from time to time. So, I just went to take a look for myself.

Sheesh. What a bunch of gobbledygook! I totally hated all of the advertising. And, who is that "Jennie" gal and why would anyone care to read her lame ramblings that go on and on and on and on and...about nothing important.

It was also one of the worst designed sites that I've ever seen. The organization of the various links, was nothing more that a mismatched hodgepodge of links that went nowhere. I couldn't figure out how to find anything.

I am truly glad to be a member on this site. And, thank you to all of the OFF moderator's for a job well done! This site is way more user friendly and LIGHT YEARS easier to navigate.

It may take some gettin use to. But having over 28,000 members must mean they are doing something right. And its been around for a decade now. Lots of posts to search from. plenty of info to be gained. Its a real good site in my books.

Don't go there....

Don't go there....

Huh,uh :naughty: Not gonna go there on this forum. There's no need to site bash nor take personal jabs at an established forum administrator who has kept a forum of that size afloat for ten plus years. Not all forums are for everyone, that's easy enough to see by watching the interactions on OFF. I respect IFish for the amount of information available. The packaging is not the most important feature,it's still the willingness to share info. Take the time to really wander around there and see how much info you can glean from some very informed, experienced fisher folk. Then come back and share what you learn.

OK. All very good points. And, you right...my apologies for bashing. It just looks like a very confusing site, and I guess that I really don't have to read some of the content if it doesn't pertain to me or seem interesting.

It was just my initial reaction. I'll spend some time on there for a while, and see what I can find and learn.

Thanks to all for chiming in!

And, I really don't want to ever be perceived as bashing someone else.

10% of what anyone says is truelly great information, the secret to listening is learning to pull that 10% out of the sensless babbling... enlightenment is simply a different perception away. Don't hate... participate..

I won't join just because they isn't enough time in a day to be on every forum and networking site on the web. I search it from time to time looking for info and reports from places I want to fish. Very helpfull. I will say with so many members to just look at the recent posts does take some time. And with the lack of catagorizing the post its can be hard to just browse around. Just use the search function and you can find GOBS of info on anything. Try to browse the site and you will most likely become discuraged. You won't ever see me on there but I noticed many of our members are on there and with the aamount of members they have it doenst suprise me they don't take much bs from anyone and just ban you. This forum continues to grow and some day with have 5 digit member numbers but I think this site with the well organized locations and sections will continue to be user friendly. Thanks everyone for making this such a great site.

Thanks to all who have posted their comments. I appreciate everyone's opinions and suggestions.

I was obviously hasty and sharp with my original comments. Didn't intend for that to happen, but it did. My mistake.

I will look to find the value on that site, that others of you have found (and have coached me to seek out).

Again, thank you. And thanks for allowing me to voice my opinions as well. That's the true definition of "forum"!

The good and real info was posted to that site in the first few years. Beyond that, well, good luck. I'll just keep me mouth shut. :)

I can't join their site I got a life ban mainly I think because Im not christian and i was saying stuff about people in my town back in iowa back during prohibition which was truth and they banned me for that. I didn't find as many friendly people on there than i do here but to everyone their own. One moderator had a problem with me and then he brought the others into it and I was just participating using my freedom of speech against the government and I guess they didn't like it. I understand some things need to stay private or have some censorship but i draw the line when I get punished when I feel the need to speak out against the government in a non violent demeaning manner.

I don't post on iFish but I do search from time to time. One nice thing about them being around 10+ years is that you can see what was working at this exact same time a year ago, 2 years ago, 5 years ago, or even 10 years ago. So if you can find a good piece of advice about a certain body of water that was working well on 3-31-2002, chances are that the same method is working today on that same area.

But it is a little overwhelming if you are just browsing. I always use the search function when visiting that site and it works well. You can find a lot of detailed, specific advice. For example, we are heading to Seaside this weekend, and I was able to find a few good posts about fishing for flounder in the Necanicum Estuary when I searched it last night.

Lots of good info.. lots of jerks. I read over posts all the time, but I don't post at all anymore. Been banned too many times. They need all new mods. Quit holding everyones hand and let people solve things on their own.

I made a few changes to your post Mike. Hope you didn't mind.

Welcome to OFF.

I like your "tag line". (THERE'S A REASON WHY IT'S CALLED FISHING INSTEAD OF 'CATCHING' ). LOL

You might also want to check out some of the lakes over there too. Lake Lytle had some good action last week, and should still have some trout left to catch. I think that there are other lakes too, that were stocked last week.

Good luck.

Being Banned

Being Banned

Being "banned" from a FORUM style site, for posting your opinion does NOT make it a true forum--that is a Dictatorship in it's purest form! That is one of the key reason's why I started checking it out. That's just an absolutely ridiculous way to run a site of it's kind. Arrogance is what it seems to boil down to.

I'll see what I can glean from it; but not become a subscribing member of the New Third Reich! (And avoid all of the Commercialistic approach to consumerism too).

I like the idea of using the search engine, as opposed to scouring their very poorly designed list of hotlinks. And I like the "longevity" concept: what method worked on a body of water 10 years ago...is likely still an effective method today!

Thanks for those suggestions.

They have there place on the web, we have ours. there is enough room in cyberspace for both. If you get banned there chances are you'll find a good home here.

You really really really have to be a pinhead to get banned here!!!
