Went by yesterday and completely drained, even the larger pocket's of water are gone. No construction happening yet. Looks to me like Haystack re-filled will be totally without fish! Really gonna miss the bull heads!

Some great pictures of the project while it was under construction in 1956-1957. The water to fill it comes from the North Unit irrigation canal. Hopefully they can get the earth dam repaired soon. Not sure how long it will take to fill the reservoir as it's source, Wickiup Reservoir, is very low too. Used to have a farm about 5 miles from the reservoir on the west side of Juniper Butte. In August you could hear the noise from the annual boat races.

Had to go to Bend last thursday so went by haystack on my way home. Filling with water again but I understand fish kill was 100%. So saw in Sportsmans that there's gonna be a fishing derby there in May. probably stocked trout for that. Not to bad except I'd lots rather fish for the bull heads that were there and I doubt the state of Oregon will plant any cats at all! Probably no crappie either!
