Hawaii bans all shoreline fishing for 3 years.

From Hawaii State Gov FB page:

"To help save our fisheries, a three years fishing ban will go into effect in 2022.

There is no question that overfishing has severely depleted Hawaii's fish stocks. Anybody that fished in the 70's and 80's will tell you that fish were plentiful and the average size was much larger. Starting January 1st, 2022 there will be a total ban on shoreline fishing in Hawaii on ALL ISLANDS.

Modern technology has allowed fishermen to be much more efficient at their hobbies. Lighter poles, stronger lines, and sharper hooks have allowed them to catch far more than they should. Social media has also played a significant part, with people sharing spots and raping the oceans of dozens of fish a day just to flex on their friends, family and followers.

All ocean areas of the state will be closed to fishing, including by pole, line, or spear. This ban will run until December 31st, 2025.

Exceptions will be made for those of Native Hawaiian ancestry who have the right to practice traditional gathering practices. They will be required to obtain a fishing permit and will be required to use traditional tools and methods for fishing, such as bone hooks, handwoven cordage, and bamboo poles and spears.

Anyone found fishing during this time without the approved permit or using prohibited methods will be subject to arrest and/or a $5000 fine per occurrence.

Social media dosnt need more photos of people with tiny fish or sunset images showing off new poles. But our oceans need a break. Our fish need time to breed and grow. Let's step back and watch our nearshore waters heal."

You buried the lead.

Besides, would an offical Hawaii FB post talk about "raping" the resource to allow for an instagram "flex"?

Sad thing is many believed it, like a lot of other FB "news".

I'm sure they did, I've followed the page for awhile, they have some hilarious content

Sourcing the lead is definitely something readers should be doing more often, I could post a link to the onion and keep the whole thread going. Most people wouldn't check
