Seeking fishing holes in Post, Oregon. Folklore is there is a pond or lake that hardly anyone knows about.

Welcome to the forum! It looks like you're a little over 20 miles east of Prineville on the map. You have SO many choices! I can't help with an unknown pond or lake, but I do know there are tons of known lakes in your area with good fishing. My go-to info site is www.boatescape.com Here is a list of your choices: http://www.boatescape.com/multib.asp?Area=10

A quick look over google maps and I see horse heaven reservoir in the general area. Maybe this is the lake you seek?

Posted in the Steelhead section, I don't think there are any steelies planted in ponds or lakes there, but maybe?

Ah yes; Post, Oregon. The exact geographical center, of our fine state. The Crooked River flows, right through there. But it's largely private land.

I may be mistaken; but I think that Horse Heaven Lake is also private (but again, I am not 100% on that one).

I've been told, by another OFFER, that all 3 of the Merwin Lakes, way out Hwy. 380 are all private. There's really nothing past that, until you hit the John Day River in Eastern Oregon.

Have you thought about Ochoco, or Prineville, Reservoir back to the west?

Antelope Flat Reservoir

Antelope Flats, is sometimes a good idea. But, after last year's drought, you'll only find your typical "truck trout" at Antelope Flats (8" - 10", maybe 12"). It's an irrigation supply reservoir. So it got totally drained, last summer. It's takes about 2 years, for it to be worthy of going that far.

That's another reason that, I suggested Ochoco or Prineville. You'll find bigger fish; and won't have to drive, and drive, and drive, and drive to get 'em.

The standard butt dial, eh? Thought maybe it was, a hidden gem of a lake or something. LOL
