Good year round trout water?

With the closure of rivers and streams (where I fish 99% of my trout) I was wondering where people go to fish for trout during the winter months? Just some general bodies of water around the Portland or Salem area for bank fishing.

Walter Wirth Lake (Cascade Gateway Park) is getting stocked either today or tomorrow, it should be really good fishing atleast for about 5 days after stocking.

I was just thinking the same thing. I like to do more stream/creek/river fishing than lake and with the closure of the majority of them here in the Portland area, it gets kind of hard. I think that November 1st was the saddest day of this year for me so far.

There is always Hagg Lake. I think that they are open till mid or late november for fishing.

its not in portland,,but the best trout fishing in oregon is open year round,,Deschutes is excellent trout fishery,the metolius is an awesome and diverse trout fishery then theres the crooked river,which in my opinion is the best trout fishery and theyre all open year round.

I'd reccomend Lost Lake in Clatsop County on the way to Seaside. Come late December early January they put some excess steelhead in there that can be quite fun. There are usually some stocker trout around too. Power Eggs work well for the trout but for the steelhead sandshrimp fished under a bobber or spoons seem to be what most of them bite.

Ya i wish those were closer to portland. Are there any streams in the portland river open to trout year round? i looked in the book, but that things is confusing

Johnson Creek was open year around years ago. Your best bet might be to call ODFW. Wish I had more info for you. You can check Boat Escape - Ultimate Oregon Boating, Camping & Fishing Resource | for info,but they don't have many streams listed.

If you are into driving, ODFW opened a great little creek to all year right in my backyard, great opportunities. In my region I am blessed with tons of all year angling.
