I have gotten the ball rolling on registering my buisiness name and that was not that hard, but I cannot find out how to get a small buisiness license in salem oregon for the life of me :( I have called the state and the city and nobody can help. I went to all the online sites as well and got skunked. Does any one here have any ideas on what I need to do to get a license? Its for selling products on my website so I dont know if that makes a differance. Thanks in advance for any help.

i would call your local college that deals with business related issues, ie has a small business program. usually they know who to contact related to what you are searching for. thats what i had to do for my fishing guides license

It's been a while, since I had a business license. But, all that I had to do back then was file for a State of Oregon license...and select the "markets" (counties I think), that I wanted to be registered in.

Like MOSD suggested; call Willamette University's College of Business. They have an MBA/entrepreneurship program; and they can help you.

and getting in contact with suggested ideas here. I have finally got the order in what I need to do.

first get the zoning paper work in to get approved for owning a home occupation. Then file for the assumed name registration as sole propriatre which will take care of the retail license/resail license. then make sure to print the state certificate of authenticity for a bin number. This will be my proof of buisiness ownership. Next make sure to contact oregon dept of revenue to find out how to claim the earnings as taxible income, and to obtain the oregon tax ID if needed. Once that is done File for LLC so that the company is under limited Liability.

Thats a lot but all this stuff actually only adds up to about 300 bucks.

Thanks for all the help!!! :) :)

You shouldn't need one, in Salem. That may be why your having problems finding one. You could double check with the chamber of commerce. Portland has a goofy business licensee requirement for any one doing business in there city limits. That's the only city one that comes to mind, thankfully Salem aint like Portland.
