Favorite trout lures

I'll be making my new home in Central Oregon 200 yards from the upper Deschutes Below Wickiup Resevoir. The plan is to on do a heck of a lot of hiking, exploring and of fishing along the way. I know Panther Martins & Mepps Spinners are a staple of a Trout Fishermans lure aresenal. One of my friends told me he kills the trout on small tube worms. Anyone care to share some others? The rod I plan on using is a 5'-6" ultra light with 4 pound line.

Try kastmasters 1/8 through 1/2 oz gold or silver and silver with a blue stripe.Make sure you do two things ,reel them fast and twist the hooks slightly,the lure is heavy and when a fish jumps they tend to throw the lure,hence the twist.Also they cast a mile on 4 pound.You can also jig them they look like a wounded bait fish Good luck

A collection for Trout, Browns and Rainbows alike shouldn't be without a few Rooster tail spinners. My go to favorite is the Salmon Fly brown, in as many sizes as is required. Do you have access to fly angling gear? If so you are poised geographically to wet a line on the Fall River...you are one very lucky angler...good luck and tight lines.

A collection for Trout, Browns and Rainbows alike shouldn't be without a few Rooster tail spinners. My go to favorite is the Salmon Fly brown, in as many sizes as is required. Do you have access to fly angling gear? If so you are poised geographically to wet a line on the Fall River...you are one very lucky angler...good luck and tight lines.

I do have a fly rod. Its a 4wt I bought just for the Fall River. I've been going up to visit my friend who lives in Lapine the past (3) years during Christmas & New Years. My very First fish out of there was a Nice Brown. When I first saw the Fall and locals on another Board said there are some big triout in there some 30"+. When I first saw the river in person I was a bit Skeptical but after catching that Brown Trout and seeing some of those Brood stock in the hatchery Pins I'm convinced.

I'm with Liquidplumber, have always had great success with the kastmaster. I have caught trout on every color they have, but the silver an silver/blue seem to work the best for me. I am curious though about the twisting of the hook, never heard of that before. Are you saying you give each of the 3 tines a twist? I know I have had many a trout throw a kastmaster and am going to smack myself on the forehead if the solution is that simple.

Don't use a hammer! An older friend showed me that trick on flatfish for salmon on the sacremento river near Red bluff Ca.I use it on all my lures.If you twist the hooks slightly, when the fish hits it it twists in and is much harder to pull out.Now I land 3 times more fish on the kastmaster.My friend is gone now but his knowlege lives on.Good luck.

I am with Chuck, I love Rooster Tails but this is my all around go to lure of all time. This size and color combination has caught 1000's of Kokanee and Rainbows for me.

Nice size for that water, this was the first place I found out what all the talk was about knukle busters...get used to using your palm, I speak from experence....what a wonderful place. If I didn't live so far I would be there quite a bit more often. Tight lines and enjoy.

Spinners don't always treat me right but a thomas bouyant never fails. The best one is the rainbow colored one followed buy the blue one both on silver metal. For some reason gold doesn't agree with me eigther.

i'd have to say my new favorite is the silver kastmaster.... last night i went out for some trout, i was usin worms and that didn't seem to be workin, so i switched over to the kastmaster and bam i got my limit in under an hour and i was outta there

All the lures mentioned in this post are the best lures to use never had a problem with any of them but some are better than others but it changes from person to person. As for fishing up there i am so jealous but i love the valley because of the closeness of the salmon and steelhead and i can travel any direction for an hour or so and be in a totally different environment. Wish we had browns in the backyard though.

They work AWESOME for trout at salish. as long as you use wet flies that have some brightness on them.

GreenButt skunk is my favorite!

But when they stock it with little 4"-6" trout ("runts" as me and my friend call them) Thats when i use dry flies.

And about these "Runts" do any other lakes have them cause at salish ponds they stock it with a million of them. they are literally everywhere. they eat everything and are very aggresive attacking things that are bigger then them. cast out a dry fly, Kastmaster... ANYTHING and you will catch on for sure. but Why do they stock them there?

I also saw people KEEPING them. they are meerly 4" trout!!! (literally)

Glad I'm not the only one.. . The guys at the tackle shop were loving me earlier.. buoyant spoons, rapalas, various panther martins. I was going to hold off on the panther martins but they had a few patterns that I just had to try.

Now I just need time off work to try them out! Hoping to catch trout on something other than a earthworm or kastmaster this year..
