Can't take it any more

For some reason, I do not really know why, I had decided not to go for salmon this year. However, after looking at all the fish porn, I find that I can't resist it any more. So I will be out there somewhere this weekend. Next step, go through this forum to get tips on gear and locations, then to Dicks to buy gear Friday evening.

Fished for salmon only once, never caught anything bigger than a 14 inch trout, never fished any of the rivers here and I do not have anyone to show me the ropes apart from the folks here. So I am starting from almost 0. It should be fun, at least I'd end up with some new gear if nothing else. Any tips would be much appreciated. I live in Beaverton, I think I'd check out some river within an hour or so of travel.

Cheers

Go fish the trask river at loren's drift or the nestucca around cloverdale & hebo.
Observe what the bobber fishermen are doing, ask them questions. Most people there are generous with information and you can learn a lot from watching and asking.

all you need is 2oz bobbers, a bunch of owner 5/0 octopus hooks, go buy some good eggs (tillamook angers have the best on the coast if you don't cure your own).get some shrimp, and some first bite salmon jigs. don't forget your 20-30lb maxima leaders. Bobber fishing is the easiest, the most fun,and often times the most effective way to catch fall salmon, especially for a bank angler. just be very observant and soak up info like a sponge. There are A LOT of fish around because of the rain and they are bitey. Just make sure you get to the river at the ass crack of dawn cause the early bird gets the worm, and chinook are notorious morning biters especially when the river is crowded.

good luck.

Don't go to dicks sporting good and instead go to Sportmans warehouse. They have way better equipment and a huge selection, the people there are great too.
