I'd like to teach my son a little Fly Fishing. I hear below the Dam on the Crooked is a good spot. What's a decent day (in numbers) in that section of the river. Good spot for kids?
Thanks!

Best place to teach a kid in my opion. I was there mid summer in the down time an we caught about a dozen. Just make sure he has wadders cause there isn't a lot of places to cast from shore. I would fish the top 3 miles with prince nymphs orange scuds the scuds can be hard to find pink works in there place.

Thanks man, nymph'd some and did ok. Going back to try some other flies. Gonna' take a while for my little guy to learn to set a hook, but that's why we're out there. The scenery sure is nice. See you guys out there soon.
The Crooked below Bowman Dam is a great winter fishery. It's not like the rivers on the west side that get blown out with the rain. Not that much rain over there. Even the Deschutes can get belown out especially below White River. Just be ready for cold clear days.

From what i have read about it in winter i think i should use a small orange scud? Or wooly bugger, or pheasent tail. Also it sounds like blue winged olive hatches happen in december! That would be amazing to catch a fish on a dry during winter
