Went to the Alsea today for the first time....had to test one of my new steelhead stalker jigs....What a beautiful river......I dont think much was going on but the jig was cool...snagged it on a stump and had to have it retrieved..hehe.....Still wondering who the heck put trees on the banks of a river..... When will it really pick up....I really need to get my first steelie....or has it already...

I left a pink steelhead stalker jig in a tree on the same river today! People could just follow me around and get the jigs I lose in trees. Fishing has not picked up yet but it was really high today on all rivers in the area.

Its still going to be a little high tomorrow but you could try it again. Bring some roe if you have it and by tomorrow the water should be at a good level to fish jigs! Good luck.

Thanks...we may give it a try or head the other direction and just hit a few of our spots on the clackamas or even try the wilson.....

I'm hittin up the NF Alsea in about 2 hours. :D

Hopefully the crowds aren't too bad. Who am I kidding.. no one is employed these days, there will probably be 400-500 people at the hatchery area.:lol:

Hello fellow fishing junkies.I am new to this site and excited that I have found this forum. I am a devoted fisherman but just started steelhead fishing 3 years ago. I have been fortunate in my pursuit recently. I have been fishing the N.fork of the Alsea the past 2 weekends. Dec.4th the day after my beloved ducks destroyed the hopes of all you confused OSU fans I fished the Alsea for a few hours in the morning. The water levels were modestly low but I managed to hook and land a nice hatch Hen. Dec. 6th that following sunday I went back for a few hours managed to hook and land 5 chinook and 1 coho. The nooks were turning but the last 1 was a nice lookin Hog. By the measurements a took and just the feel I figured it was a healthy 35lbs. Man what a great day that was no keepers but truely had the best day of fishing I have ever had. I managed to make my way back to the Alsea Dec. 13th with a buddy of mine. We fished a few hours. Water was very low and icy but somehow was able to hook and land a 32 inch steely hatch buck and landed another chinook. I have felt so discouraged for awhile leading up to these past few trips but I must say that has long since passed. I am very excited about this winter season and can't wait to see some of you out there tearin up the water. Good luck everyone and GO DUCKS a.k.a. Beaver Dream Slayers LOL !!!!

Was at the NF today. My first time there so I could not give you the experienced advice others could. Decent visibility, decent weather, decent crowds. Flow seems to be looking good through the rest of the week. Saw a few hook ups this morning and a couple of fish hit the banks. I'll be there again in the morning, hopefully I'll get my first alsea steel.
