Aside from the very long light rods - you can. You can make your own level holders, using two Y style rod holders. You can also get those strike alarms fairly cheap from places like Cabela's - they just won't be attached to the rod holders.

You can also get graphite telescoping rods from anywhere from $10 to $100 in lengths from 10-30 feet. You don't *need* a $2000 pole or a $2000 spinning rod to get carp, or to fish a level rod...

Also, Thill makes some excellent floats for this type of fishing - Mick Thill really does a good job w/ his float designing.

Just like any other type of fishing - you can go as expensive or cheap as you want/can afford. Fisherman are great at improvising!
