It's pretty easy to monitor tides on the Navionics app.
First open the app and move to an area you want to check out.

I've been focusing on shallow flats I find with my Navionics app and they are just starting to move up around here.
not new, the float n' fly is popular in states like Tennessee for winter smallmouth.
For me, the best bait is definitely a blade bait when the water is in the 30's and low 40s.
Typical river current breaks and like IKfish says, flats near deeper water. Here are some good areas. This screenshot might be close to the backwater you are talking about if its the same place I'm thinking of.
