    Nehalem Bay 8/8/14

Thanks for the report. I was going to fish there today but other things kept me in town.

    Screaming reels

They went out yesterday and did alright. I wasn't able to go and he had the rookie crew. After one of them chummed the big water, they went in and finished the day off. I'll be fishing out of it on the 18th and 19th. Hopefully, we'll be whacking some big nooks!

    Screaming reels

Thank you. Catching coho out in the salt is nothing like trying to catch a salmon inland. They're feeding out there so the fishing can be fast and furious.

    Screaming reels

We took our friend's boat out for it's inaugural tuna fishing trip this last Saturday. Launched out of Hammond in the dark for a bumpy bar crossing and rolling seas for the day. Ran about 35 miles out until we found the deep blue 65 degree water. Managed to catch my first-ever tuna while...

    Buoy 10 heating up

It sure is heating up. Nooks are being bonked and the coho fishing can be ridiculous. We took my friend's boat out for its inaugural tuna trip on Saturday. My first time tuna fishing and we did alright. Coming in, we picked up our coho limit. So, are you using lead or divers and if lead...

    Lights out fishing

That's great Irish. You know the fishing is hot when the wardens search your boat at the take out. We've been fishing anchovies. Some with a flasher or dodger and some just straight diver and anchovy. Last weekend I did well at 30ft on the line counter. This weekend I went to 18ft on the line...

    Lights out fishing

Spent two days at the coast. First day we fished and crabbed out of Garibaldi. Seas were big and the bite was tougher going 1-4 on coho but limited on crab. Next day we went out of Ilwaco and it was even better than last Sat. We limited in 3.5hrs with 12 clipped and 2 wild (last weekend ratio...

I hope you're dropping crab pots too. Reports have been good.

    Powerbait?

I guess I was being an arse and to each their own, right? Not that I'd be fishing for steelhead with powerbait but I'd high five someone who caught one using it because that would be some funny shizzle. For me, every steelhead, is a reward and catching them on homemade gear is just icing on...

    Ocean producing salmon

If you get an opportunity to go out, take advantage of it. We went Saturday and were done by 11:00a (launched out of Ilwaco). 12-20 with only one being wild. First fish came before all rods were out and last was a double so we had to release a hatchery fish to finish the day. Count down to...

    Powerbait?

So someone shouldn't feel good about trying something different and being successful? Although I have never tried the doughy power bait for steelhead (I admit it would be funny), I see the Power Eggs not being all that different from Mad River Eggs with scent or pink Power Worms. Why limit the...

    Farewell mi amigos

    Passing through - pic sharing

Thanks guys! That would explain it. ;) They aren't always the ticket but some days, that's all they hit for me. I also like to rig one as a trailer off my jig sometimes (shown in pic above). When rigged like that, I've caught fish on the jig and the bead (obviously not at the same time).
