Great spots for a newbie trout/ bass fishermen near Grants Pass

I've recently picked up fishing and Im looking for some spots to try to perfect my craft. I've tried my luck on the river but its quite intimidating. I've had some luck on some of the farther away lakes like selmac and lake of the woods but I'd like to try to find a spot I could get a line in after work and not make it a whole day affair. I would love to hear about some lesser known ponds or lakes that are near that I could try to get a bite? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Letís go fishing on Saturday. Not enough time to go fishing? Think again Ė if you live in the Medford area, there are many places you can get to in less than an hour. Make sure you read the Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations before you go. Mileage and generalized directions are from Rogue Valley Mall, 1968 Crater Lake Hwy.
