  • Crabbing Yaquina Bay, 10/13

I wanted to try this bay due to the good catch reports on various sites.
We got there about 11 am and ran to the area around the Gas plant.
There were a good number of floats but we managed to find space of ours without crowding anyone else.
We made 4 one hour soaks with tuns carcass for bait.
Out of our four traps, we got 9 Dungeness crabs and one fair sized Red Rock for the day.
There were several very large females caught and tossed back along with the undersized crabs.
But even the small crabs were not plentiful.
    Slow day overall.

I've heard that Coos Bay is on fire and I've done well at Winchester Bay lately. Not sure where you're coming from but if it's convenient to you, the south coast seems to be the crabbing ticket.

      Yaquina was an experimental run.
Next trip will be going to Coos Bay most likely.
I've crabbed there a few times with good result.
