Coho fishing red hot out of Newport

The last three days have produced limits of nice fat coho salmon out of Newport. The coho are in close, today we got out limit right at the Whistle Buoy. About 100' of water at 22 pulls fishing pink, and blue/clear hoochies . The other two day we went out to 160' fOW 16 pulls. We had about one non clipped fish to every clipped fish. That is not a bad average. This is the kind of fishing I love. Lots of action and it's not crowded, lots of room in the ocean.

The first two days the ocean was tame with a bit of fog. Having radar is wonderful on those kind of days. Today was foggy to start but cleared, then the ocean decided to ruff itself up a bit. We had to put those sea legs to work. All in all it has been some real good coho fishing.

Sounds like great fishing, Winchester Bay has been red hot as well. Just wish we could keep more and not have throw so many back.

Coho fishing has definitely slowed down this week. More non clipped fish than clipped ones for sure. Plenty of smoke in the air too.
