Here is a pic of my son and I with some Ling Cod. We fish for these about 9 miles southwest of our bar. Needless to say, you need good weather conditions to go after Ling that far offshore.

Very nice looking fish, I mean they are ugly but very nice indeed. I was able to eat some fresh Ling Cod after my sons fishing trip a while back....great tasting fish.

They are (your son and the fish) almost the same size!

Yeah, he had a great day. I don't get to take him out with me near as much as he or I would like due to the fact that its a job for me.
The fish in the pics are all about 15 to 20 pound range. That was his first time bottom fishing, now he's hooked on it!

Wow, your son is strong! I think I'd be struggling to hold those fish up! Very nice pic. I looked at my chart, and don't see any particular features about 9 miles southwest of the bar. I just bought a boat and am frothing at the mouth to get out and do some good. Whenever the ocean lays down a bit, I'd love to sneak out and try for some lings and whatnot. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Richard |

Hi Richard,
The spots we fish south of the bar are not denoted on the charts. the lat/lon for the most popular area is : 43 34.25 124 22.61 These coordinates are degrees, minutes, decimal format. Once you get there you should find at least a few local boats fishing the area. Make sure that you have a good weather forecast for your trip. here is a link to check winchester bay's marine forecast http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/PZ/350.html good luck, Scott

Hi Scott,
Thanks so much for sharing the coordinates. I'll plug those into the chartplotter! I'm sure I'll run into you sometime at the dock or on the water some time. My boat is the Tia Maria, she's moored on the same dock as the Strike Zone(s), so chances are good! Good luck to you and your son as well, and thanks also for the weather link, I've actually been monitoring that one for some time now. I'll let you know how my adventures go, as they come along. I hope to get out to some halibut holes as well (do you have THOSE numbers? ) and am crossing my fingers that the albacore come within range...... All the best, Richard |
