Default South Umpqua

Finally got out and hit the South for the first time this year I got out of school early so decided I was going to give it a try wouldn't you know it,
it was a nasty day windy just nasty. anyway i was fishing from the bank and didn't really have much room to work I worked some shaky head worms and jigs just to see what was up I didn't get to much action but I was fishing I really got to start fising on days when it is nicer.

The question about regular boats on that river...if you know the river you could possible get by...but I recomend either a jet pump or tube/toon for your best chance. I started fishing it from the shore and moved up to a toon, I have to say it is just like a lake...get away from the shore and the world opens up .......This year the water will take a while to drop down and warm up but it shouldn't be long until the Smallie alarm will go off... Personnally I like the Elkton area, each to there own.

Could one get by with a canoe? I've been looking at toons too. Is it a float or are you able to paddle back to where you launched from?

Either way, you could float a section and row back up and do it again. Now there are some places on that river that your not going to be able to row up, this comes from experence on the river. I would tell you where I usually go but I just go there and I have never looked at street names or land marks. It is such a great river...I would check out the local boat launches and look up stream and down and if it looks doable then your in. If not try another ramp, the ramp that I use is not even in the water when I go. You have to drag your craft a hundred yards or so to get to the water. The water is so warm in the summer you don't even need waders, I do recommend felt or cleeted shoes; the bottom is very slippery.
