Anybody have successful methods for trout to use while the boat is anchored up other than throwing power bait? Im going out on a boat with about 4 others and would like to do something different than them to find what works. Could I just let a spinner sink then retrieve?

in the lakes I've been fishing lately the fish have been eating off the surface and the couple of feet below that - not as much action on the bottom. I wouldn't let that spinner sink much, but do reel nice and slow (The fish may be doing something different where you guys are headed, change things up until you find fish and then keep repeating what you did).
I count "one onethousand" for each revolution of my spinning reel's handle to make sure I'm giving the spinner a good speed. .8 to 1.2mph is where quite a few blades are designed to be run, You must first find out what the blade is designed to do before you can fish it right.. example: my one onethousand trick works great for #1 blue foxes, but is too fast for panther martins. When fish are suspended in shallow water i've caught trout & bass with Rapala shallow diving lures................combo colors of greens, browns, yellows, etc...................try different colors, speeds of retrieves..............stop n go..........................down to about 24" deep.......................

For still fishing the sky is the limit; earthworms, meal worms, wax worms, maggots, crickets, and that's just some live stuff. I imagine any of the gulp products in the jars would work great, and I wouldn't be opposed to floating a regular old trout/crappie worm rigged wackie style either.

You could try smaller jigs under a bobber with some Salmon Eggs or night crawler.

I completely forgot about salmon eggs, good catch there JT!
There are also salad shrimp, crayfish tails, whole small crayfish, marshmallows, dead minnows (please don't use live fish). |

Miniature (white) Marshmallows with a Salmon egg on top. Thread the mellow over the hook and put a egg on the small hook and slide the mellow back up to the hook...dynamite Trout bait.

truthfully i like just a small split shot 20-24" up from hook then run a salad shrimp up the hook just over the eye. after that drop a couple fire balls on the end of the hook and just pitch out and let drop just a little. then commence with the slow retrieve... i call it a shrimp cocktail and in the spawn it drives the trout NUTS!!!

funny u say that... i was up in alaska trout fishing with a buddy and his daughter. well i was drinking beer as he was rowing and when we got all the way across the lake we looked to see his daughter eating our last piece of bait!!! SHE ATE ALL THE BAIT!!! so we threw spinners and drank beer instead ;-)
