Been itching for some fishing and Hagg lake sounds worth a trip. I have heard little here or anywhere though on what condition it's in after the rough winter (water clearity, level) and if anyone's catching anything yet. Weather and so I assume water temperature has been lower than usual this year so far, so I'm expecting the warm water bass and what not to be off the bite for a bit - trout though?

The water is high, it's a bit murky but not too bad. They stocked it this week with legal size trout. I caught a bass about 3 weeks ago out there, surprised the poop outta me! It was great though. I haven't caught any bass since, but lots of trout. Power bait off the bottom with a bit of worm on the end has been gettin' 'em! They sell huge night crawlers at the Lake Stop store on the way to Hagg. We split them into two. Worth the trip for sure. They like orange, rainbow, and chartreuse power bait by the way. Good luck!

I hate to sound like a complete "fish snob" but are there any tricks to catch the native cuthroats vs the hatchery stocked fish? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the hatchery fish too, but I love to catch a native once in a while as they're lovely things and usually fight really well. Yes, I always release them even if I guess technically I don't if they're big enough.
As a kid I used to fish Dairy creek out past Banks and catch some really colorful cut's - some pretty good sized ones too (12-18") once in a while. Sigh, those were the days.... |

Anyone take a water temperature reading in Hagg? I know this is the trout forum but when it warms up a bit there I have no problem going for those big and small mouthed other species in there! Maybe I'll take Mom fishing for Mothers day... yeah, she'd just LOVE me for that

I requested to go fishing for Mother's Day! What better thing to ask for?
![]() Hagg was a bust today, I went for a bit this morning- only caught a few tiny perch. They sure are funny lookin' with a big nightcrawler hangin' out of there mouth.....The bass will be hitting better soon, but I've heard of them caught already. Myself included.

Just an update, I went fishing for the first time since moving to OR 10 years ago. My wife wanted to go for mothers day and so I couldn't help but jump at the opportunity. Low and behold I actually caught one.
Shocked the hell out of me as I did it "old school" using just a hook and 1/2 of a worm. needless to say it made my day. Had a few more bites after that but the little buggers ended up getting my bait and off the hook before I could get them in. Overall a good day. Looking forward to doing it again this weekend |
