Took two of my buddies out to Blue Lake today for some Trout tracking. We hit the lake around 3:30 and fished my usual setup of PowerEggs from the bottom. The Trout were holding a little deeper with the warmer weather. After about ten minutes my buddy Tom had his first trout ever! We were stoked. Then I got one and another and then Matt got his first Trout when fishing with me. The trout were good sized and fought really well on light gear. We ended up with four each and took home twelve trout in all. Tom caught a snub nose trout. Never seen this before. Looks like this Trout had its nose broken as a young fingerling. Looks kinda like a Dolphin fish, but a rainbow. What a trip that was. The biggest was caught by Tom at 14 inches. Beautiful day and good friends helped to aleave a brutal week of group work at school. I love fishing! Here are some pics!

What else works on blue lake? I trout some pink powerbait a couple feet off the bottom from the left side of the cement dock thing in the summer, but nothing bit... I saw some other guy carrying 2 decent sized trout (maybe10-12 inches) but they said they caught it on green power bait. What else works?

The blue lake website says there is LM bass too. =) Wonder how to catch those too...

Well fishschooler I think that all forms and most colors of power bait will work as I found several different colors of it in some of the Trout's stomachs. I find that Orange and Chartruse tend to be most popluar and effective for Trout. I also think that Power Eggs on smaller egg hooks are a key to my catching more Trout. I also use 2lb leader from 2 1/2 to 3 ft. Also try using scent on your PB to increase the scent attraction to your presentation. I like earth worm and Shrimp scents. One of the things people overlook a lot is the size of the line used for leader. For Trout you don't want or need anything more than 6lb. Trout are line shy fish that will not likley bite a bait with heavy line coming from it. Hope that helps. Also the summer is a bad time of the year at Blue Lake for Trout. Try North Fork or Harriet lake where the water stays cooler year round.
