Default Kid friendly fishing near Lebanon...

Hello All,
I just move to Lebanon and am looking for a place to take my girlfriends 9 year old boy out fishing. I am a salmon and steelhead fisherman by trade from the south coast, dont really know much about where to, how to up here. Any help would be greatly appreciated as he asks me every day when were going fishing. I am excited to take him just need to find a place. Also...I dont have my sled up here yet, so looking for just bank trout fishing at the moment. Thanks...

I'd suggest Green Peter, http://www.oregonfishingforum.com/gr...e-general.html, but as it starts to fill up you'll be wishing you had your boat. Though even then you won't need anything fancy, as just a canoe will do.

And once trout season opens the South Santiam that flows through town is supposed to have some good sized trout in it, so that may be worth a look as well.

Default Green Peter

What structure or features do you look for at GP when finding a spot to fish from shore? Does hardware work best, or is it a powerbait and worm show??? Wana try and be somewhat dialed in before I get there so I can try and get the kiddo a few fish before he becomes bored and decides fishing is not so fun.

The best structure I have found tends to be steep drop-offs, with my little hypothesis being that it's offers the fish a good mix of easy access to water temp changes, some cover, as well as a good view to ambush smaller fish as well.

I'm a hardware only kind of guy myself but that's not to say powerbait or worms won't work, it's just not how I fish. But I also wouldn't be too worried about the little guy getting too bored, Green Peter is a rock hounds wildest dream. The little streams and snow run off have been washing all sorts of quartz out of the ground, and I always have my eyes peeled in hopes of spotting some gold (haven't found any yet). But at the very least he shouldn't have any trouble finding some pretty rocks to bring home for mom.

And a couple of reports from a few months back with photos...

Ponds in area that have been recently stocked can be good too. EE wilson is currently stocked (have to walk back into the pond) and upcoming stockings will be at Roaring River park pond and freeway lakes. EE Wilson and Junction City ponds get very big stockings this week.

Yeah, E.E. Wilson is good for kids when the fishing is slow...

And even if the trout aren't biting the sunfish almost always do.

Foster a day or 2 after they stock it can be productive. They stock it at the boat ramp at the camp ground. Any place near the ramp can be a lot of fun.
