Hello Everyone,
I am very happy to finally be a registered member of the site. I've been visiting it quite often, and I've enjoyed the comments and the comradery. I hope to be able to learn and contribute a lot in the future. I went to St. Luis Ponds (just South of Woodburn) last Saturday anticipating to have a great time catching some of the trout that was recently released into the ponds. I tried Pond #3 for quite a while with worms and Kastmasters without a single bite. I then went to Pond #1 to try to change my luck. Same thing. I wasn't the only one getting skunked at the ponds...virtually no one else seemed to be getting any bites. I was quite puzzled by this result. Could it be that the ponds were not stocked yet? Or perhaps, the conditions just were not right? Or was I simply fishing at the wrong location? If anyone could provide some insight on how to increase my fish catching success rate at these ponds, your help is greatly appreciated. |

Something I've noticed at EE Wilson is that the fish sometimes are "time" sensitive; only biting first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening. So it's possible that you'll experience the same thing at other bodies of water.
Oh and another thing that I try to do if I notice no one is catching fish, is to do something different. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen people make is to show up at the lake where no one is catching anything, ask what everyone is fishing with, and follow suit only to not catch anything as well. So try out that lure you've never used, toss a panfish popper (which does work surprisingly well for trout), etc... you never know what might work. |

go figure. It is my belief that fish are all opportunistic feeders, something catches their eye and they just have to investigate and more often that not they will at least bump it. Thats when I give it a flutter and stall then a snap of the wrist. Usually brings on another strike....I love lure fishing...![]() ![]() Chuck

Planter trout in small water will often go on the bite if you take a handfull of small pebbles and toss them in the water to them its like the sound of feeding time at the hatchery. I know bizzar old trick dad tought me long ago but it works

I've heard that one too but have never tried it. I keep meaning to, but I almost never bait fish.

This is my first post too. Hi all! I am pretty sure they only stock pond 3 although now that they have the dock at the other pond I may be wrong. We went out to St. Louis ponds Sunday and got skunked too. From what the locals (there are a few guys who seem to live at the ponds until the fish are gone) told me they had the gate locked until Saturday morning and guys only saw fish come out Saturday. They were caught by a couple of kids who were standing at the gate when they were opened... so my guess is the fish were biting at o-dark-thirty, but then stopped. So "time sensitive" like Chris says may be the problem.
