I was thinking about taking the kids to jc pond but instead decided on Alton Baker Canal, I have never fished it before but the stocking reports shoow high stocking there. I am taking the kids there to fish. Can anyone give me some pointers (area or bait) so the kids can catch some. Thanks in advance.

I have never actually fished there, but I live nearby. As for location, I have noticed that most people fish a section behind Kowloon restaurant (on the park side of the canal though). It is relatively easy to access. Enter the park off of Club Rd. (rather than the Autzen Stadium entrance), go over a small bridge, and park in the lot on your left. As you are crossing the bridge, you should see a nice grassy area along the canal to your left. It is a perfect fishing and picnic area. Good luck and tight lines.

We went there this morning with the kids, only stayed about 20 mins. and caught one. Then we went to Cottage Grove Res. and they did well we left when they each had landed three.

Awesome. I'm glad the kids got to catch some fish. I loved the family fishing trips...and even more so when I actually caught something.
