Default Chuck..................................

There are more than Hills Creek fishing opportunities in Oregon!
I do have to admit, that I have seen some fine photo's of fish that have been caught recently by yourself and others from that reservoir/lake. I am leaning towards East Lake, due to the scenic area, plus I think that it will be the best opportunity to get my 6 year old grandson into some fish.

I wish I lived near Hills Creek. A perfect day for me is to stay on the West, getting up early enough to see the sunrise at Detroit before going after the 8-10" stockers.

I do like the central Oregon lakes as much as the next person but drive time for my self to East lake/Lava lake and the rest of them is over two hours and the quality of the fish is much better on the west side of the mountain. If your into Land Locked Salmon, Rainbow, Cutthroat and the occasional Large Mouth Bass then Hills creek is just the ticket. Keep in mind this is just my opinion, their is a reason there are so many lakes in our state.....it keeps the pressure down. If we all showed up at the same lake we would probably be posting on the skunk thread. Good luck and tight lines on your outing.

Default Chuck - You were right

We should have gone to Hills Creek Res! Even though we caught no fish, the time spent with son and grandson was special.

Any time you spend with the grandson is time well spent, great picture...the fish will come. Have you ever tried Smith Res., if your interested in a day of catching instead of fishing let me know...

Chuck

Question Packard Creek or Sand Prairie?

Chuck and/or Others:
I don't know if you have checked out the campgrounds on the Middle Fork arm of Hills Creek. If you have, can you give me a recommendation of one over the other?

Carmen Smith? If so, it was many moons ago, but not long enough to forget how cold the water was (I was in a float tube)

The camp ground I would recommend is Packard Creek Camp ground, comes with a camp host and nice toilets, not sure but it looks like it has about 30 or so sites and is kept up well. I is run by Hoodoo resorts and is a fee area, nice boat ramp and the water is 71 degrees, not to mention a pretty good fishery. I am not sure how long they charge the fee for camping, this could be the last weekend they charge. I do know they charge all year for the use of the ramp. Your close to town, Oakridge. Restaurants, shopping, Pizza.....the complete gambit... Even a McDonald's. It has one of the few A&W's still around that sell PAPA burgers...Hope this helps.............
