I went in trying for trout yesterday. Again. Even rented a boat for the day to get out 'there'. Nothing but two tiny yellow perch. I don't think I'll be back there soon..... Any tips on places nearby to catch something other than a tiny crappie or perch?! I've tried many spots and lures, and baits..... I'm determined, and love to fish but I'm a bit frustrated.
Thanks for listening!! |

There is pretty good bank fishing at Greenpeter and Foster lakes, they aren't to far from you. If your interested in a map let me know and I can e-mail you one. Pretty cool lake and they have Koke's, Chinook,Cuthroat,Rainbow and sun fish... I prefer to fall angling there but summer bank fishing can produce some very nice fish. Also the Santiam is very productive for bank angling for Steelhead, I believe the bulk of the run on that river is just beginning and will peak in late Sept. So if your interested let me know.

I can certainly sympathize with your frustration, I moved from Corvallis to Hillsboro for the summer, two months ago, and can seem to find decent fishing if my life depended on it. Though that would actually be a lie, I just got back from the Wilson river today and while I only caught one fish for the several hours I spent there, there were no shortage of fish checking out my lures, and it became a real cat and mouse game of trying to figure out what they'd take a swipe at. It was definitely one of those days that I'd humor pulling out the old fly rod and give the fish what they want. So if you fly-fish tie on a midge pattern and hit your nearest coastal stream, you likely won't be disappointed. But remember that north of Lincoln city they are almost exclusively catch&release (check the regs for the actual c&r deadline, I think it's the Salmon river on one side and something else on the other). |

Depends on how far you are willing to drive. you're not far from vancouver lake just over the border of i-5, if you don't mind another state. but you should be able to catch trout stellhead and salmon all along the willamette river in your area... try shrimp as bait and a little patience.

Oh that reminds me, there's also a Barney reservoir relatively near Hagg. It's also a C&R only lake but it's supposed to be good.

Wow, I love this place! Your all so nice and helpful.
I just went to North Fork Res. today, got skunked AGAIN But so did everyone else that I saw there. I bought a sevylor 12 ft. blow up boat, (green one) and we (my son, husband and I) squeezed ourselves into it....(six man boat my butt.....ha ha) but it was cool to go to the other side of the lake. I figure it will be just fine for little trips. Chuck, I would love any maps for new locals, my family gratefully give in to going on little trips to fishing places I want to try, so please send them on! And thanks again. You will probably all be sick of me posting before long!! ![]() |
