Default Costal cut throut

Hello im new just got back into fishing resently because i moved 1 mile from gales creek been fishing it since the sesson started and caught alot of costal cuts in fast moving areas of it. Mostly 7-10 inchers but a few 12-16 all on spinners and spoons ihate useing power bait its very boaring fishing with it.
Resently alot of the trout have gathered in a large slow moveing area of the stream. I see them durign the day hanging in the shade. I was wondering if you guys had any hints on what kinda lures to run throw there i plan on going down tomaorw around 6 am with some spinners and spoons and tryign my luck but some tips would be nise. Also if anyone has some sugestions for good streams or rivers around here were its legal to keep trout from and theres alot of trout that would be greatly aprisheated--Sean

Greetings Sean and welcome to OFF. I would try a Salmon Fly Rooster Tail, you can get them at Bi-Mart or Joes. They are a dark brown body and a brass blade, killer on Cuts. Good luck and tight lines.

EDIT just relized thats the brand ive been useing just not that color i normaly have good luck on the black ones with the silver blades so i think they like dark lures so that might work well.

The size should match the water type, shallow water 1-3feet small ones deeper water heaver size......I have the black ones with the silver blades and they work, but the dark brown with brass/gold blades (Salmon fly) really do out preform by far. This is just my opinion, there are so many lures, spinners and spoons out there. Mostly to catch the anglers The old rule of thumb is dark lure on a dark day and bright lures on a bright day.....and so on......

Im gettting pissed i can go up on the hill above the pool and see tons of trout some 20 inchs and real fat. But no matter what i throw throw there i can only catch squaw and sucker fish. Ive tryed worms, spinners , live minnows, plugs, and abotu everything else i could think of but not a single trout. In the pool area do you think its time for me to break down and learn to fly fish i see them jump for flys and stuff all the time im thinking its the best option. Any opinouns or cheap fly fishign set up tips.

Sean, If you can see them they can see you. Most fish in an area like your describing get a lot of pressure, you might just need to be more stealthy, even walking up to the area can alert the fish of danger approaching, fly angling might be the ticket you might want to send MOKAI a pm and ask him for some help on strategies he is very adept at fly angling and knows the ins and outs of Cutthroat angling. Good luck and tight lines.

Chuck
ps
If your interested in a fly rod and reel I have a used one you can have if your willing to travel for it.
send me a pm and we can work out the details.

This why they call it fishing instead of catching . I read some where once that a Trout has a brain the size of a peanut, I hate being beat by peanut
Hang in there and keep trying, it will come together - It really will. I got your pm.

Chuck
