During February and March prior to the spring planting fishing was slow, but I managed to catch a couple real nice native bows. One was 18 inches and the other was almost 20, after the plant, I've not pulled in anything but planters. Last year I caught a few chinooks trolling my stuff for bows. None this year. Yeah the green slime attack will slow things for a couple of weeks, and then back to normal. I think I might try Hyatt this weekend.

I fished lost creek probably about 8 times this winter and didn't do very well, but then the water was around 36-42 degrees most of the trips.

How was Hyatt? I'm thinking of going to hyatt or howards prarie this weekend.

I have a friend that fishes a lot and keeps me posted. He says that Howard is very slow this year, although there are prizes at Diamond and Howard
this weekend. I am thinking about Hyatt but it will depend on what my cousin Steve wants to do.

Sorry for the late report. Went to Hyatt Last Sunday and, Well a couple of things. 1: I don't know anything about the lake. So we trolled up and down the lake with our usual stuff and nothing. 2: We still fished in the "Orchard" and nothing. I didn't even see anytning on the screen.

Steve got his feathers ruffled and we decided to go over to Howard. We got there about 10:10 and ran to the north side of the island. There were several boats still fishing and we joined in. After about an hour and half we had two small bass, and a bucket full of small perch. So we decided to troll. We went North along the east bank and (you can set your watch by the wind) at noon the wind came up, now mind you this is not your typical breeze, I am talking wind! So we just shut off the motor and drifted in the wind. I was draging my usual stuff, Ford fender and wedding ring and worm, and Steve was dragging a chunk so power bait. He caught a 13 inch planter and then I hooked up on its twin, So we decided to do it again. We motored up wind and drifted down. The sail boats were having a blast doing it so why not us too? I was daydreaming about something when Steve jabbed me and my pole tip went in the water. I grabbed it and started reeling. as I looked down I saw that I was loosing line. I thought "The Bottom", then realized that we were in 62 feet of water, maybe one of them tall weeds and then it statrted to do the fish dance and I knew I had a good one. I reeled and reeled and finally got it up near the baot and WOW. Steve got the net and I played it a few more minutes and then he netted it, and I was stoked. I know that 18 inch rainbows aren't world records, but this big old fatty was one of the nicest trout I have caught. I put it in the livewell and we went up again for another drift. As near as I could tell when we got back to that spot I hooked another that was a 1/2 inch shorter but just as nice as the first. Steve was just hanging out there with his power bait. We made a couple of more passes but nothing. Then we decided to come home.

Don't they have a Trout Turny there each year, I just have to get back there some day, so much water so little time. Congratulations on hanging in there..

Default Deeper is better

Now I remember why that downrigger I got for $40.00 was a good deal. Hit Lost Creek Lake at about 6:30 yesterday morning. Water temp was 76.8 when we launched. Ran north, up around the first point and threw the stuff in, trolled for about 20 minutes and the it dawned on me. This is the middle of the summer. The fish are deep. Out came the downrigger. I attached a ford fender to the ball and put the clip line on the other end, gave it about 4 feet of line and then my lure #4 'Metric' (hook removed) then about 14" leader, bright chartruse wedding ring with hammered copper blade [home-made] then 14 inches more leader and a bait hook with chunk'O'worm. All this down to 50 feet and about 4 minutes and fish dance. We continued trolling up the lake in about 60 to 90 feet of water (downrigger at 50 ft) catching nice rainbows 12 to 14 inchers all morning. It's nice when you C&R cause you can catch all you want.

I think next week I am going to get out in the middle, before the wacko's get there, where the depth is 180 plus and see if I can catch something there in the old river channel. I know whenever I run across the lake at high speed I always mark something down there. I just gotta, you know?

Went to Lost Creek yesterday. Got on the water 11:00 am and threw our stuff in right away and trolled the east shoreline. Caught a couple of dinks [5 or 6 in fingerlings] using the small silver dodger and yellow wedding ring and chunk of Gulp nightcrawler. The fish finder was marking a lot of fish as usual up to the big point, then up the channel and under the bridge. Steve caught a nice one just above Red Rock and then we started getting into them about halfway up to the "falls" in what I have always deemed the "Dead Zone". The water temp was 51.3 to 51.5, and the air temp was "T-shirt!".
Around 3:15, I finally broke the needlefish curse and caught my 5 on a #1 needle fish in 'fire tiger' colors, tipped with the small tail end {1/2 inch piece just for scent} of a gulp nightcrawler,on leadcore line out 4 1/2 colors I had used everything in the tackle box and put the needle fish on as a joke. I've tried them before with no luck but had a lot of others report that they caught fish that way, so what the hey? The first one I got into was a nice 13 1/2 incher, I was so surprised when my pole went down I thought that I had snagged the bottom, but when it came back up and started doing the fish wiggle then I started doing the FISH DANCE, whatever that is, and then Steve started catching them about the same size, on a trolling rig with #14 gold treble hook and small piece of Gulp nightcrawler. We only caught one with a lot of parasites on him, and the rest were nice and clean. We worked the sun/shade areas and that seemed to get the best results until the sun went down and then we decided to go in.
Pulled out at about 4:45. I have always wanted to fish the evening but the weather and circumstances have always prevented it. Now I will be sure to try it again and hope for good results, again. Fall fishing is GOOD.

Oh yea, we as usual, forgot the camera.

Default Lost Creek Lake update

Sunday morning Steve and I ventured to our favorite place and we launched at 8:00 and we threw our stuff in and started trolling upriver towards Peyton Bridge. Marked a bunch of fish about ½ way up to the “Big Point” and ran through them 4 times and no bites. Kinda makes you want to go “Hmmmmmmmmm??” Then we decided to try around the floating rest rooms and Steve hooked into a nice hold over from last year about 16 inches. We ‘CPR’d that one and went for more.

I managed to hook one, looked great till he came undone as I was lifting him into the boat. That way I didn’t damage him. We worked that area for about an hour and then decided to go to Red Rock. There was nothing at all there, no marks on the finder either. Water temp at Red Rock, 41.7, we decided to try the Lost Creek arm and nothing there either, so back to the rest room area and scored again, twice each. Water temp around the floating restrooms was 42.9 to 43.2. Then the bite was off and we decided to drag some stuff deep in the old river channel, I think this was just for practice. We marked a few at the 90 to 100 ft level, but could not entice them to bite. I know, I know, too cold. We worked our way down to the dam and trolled across the face and back and decided that we had had enough.

We pulled out about 4:10 and came home. Just another day in “PARADISE!”

Thanks for the info doublestrike, I went out to lost creek and hit the outhouse and got some fish too. I sorta caught them by accident. I tossed out a brown trout broken-back rapala while I was rigging my good pole with my usual dodger/lure/bait setup, within 30 seconds of putting it in the holder, fish on! It was just a hatchery dink, but fish nonetheless. I hooked another one with the same lure, but didn't realize I hooked something until I went to change lures. Turns out I had been dragging a 8-9" 'bow around. From the looks of it, it was a wild fish. Full fins, par marks, it was a pretty little guy.

The water at the outhouse was about 48-49 degrees today and the water was 44 degrees up at Red rock. Seems like the fishing is the best when the water temp is around 50-55 degrees. It was a beautiful day out on the water, no wind, 70 degrees, I managed to get a little sun burnt too

Today was the first time I've taken out my boat since october.. launching it was an adventure. I backed it in, but it wasn't coming off the trailer. So I backed down further. Then I noticed the trailer floating, that's when I realized I forgot to take the straps off the back. I bet the people at the marina got a kick out of that
