Cool Welcome Salmontroller

Welcome to OFF,Salmontroller! Thanks for your input and time. Are you going to be at the derby? Sounds like a lot of fun. Hope to see a bunch of OFF'ers there.

Pretty much right on Salmontroller. Regs allow 25 kokes and chinook in combination, in addition to 5 bows. Two boat ramps available. Thistle Creek is 9.2 miles from turnoff at Hwy 20. Whitcomb Creek turnoff is 10.9 miles from Hwy 20 and then 1.2 miles down to the ramp. Thistle Creek is usable all year long. Whitcomb Creek isn't, but should be OK for the derby with water levels at the point they are this year. Whitcomb is actually a two lane ramp if all the debris is cleared away (which it isn't at this time), and has two lots to park in that will accomodate about 55 - 60 boat trailers. Thistle has two smaller lots that will take care of about 35 trailers at max. Fishing time starts at 0630 with weigh ins from 1400 to 1600, or 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. for us civilians. I agree, we need to be ready to launch quickly so we need to make sure our boats are loaded and ready to go prior to backing down the ramp, which should be common courtesy anyway. Getting out in a timely manner poses another scenario with recreational boaters. We never know what to expect. Most of them are usually in the water prior to 2 p.m. so I am hoping we will be OK there.

What we must remember is to allow enough time to be in line at the weigh in prior to 4 p.m., no excuses, it isn't fair to everyone else that made it on time. We just have to make sure that we allow plenty of time to get our boats out and get down the road. I am posting almost identical info on ifish as well in an attempt to keep everyone informed. I sincerely hope everyone is looking forward to this event as much as I am. If anyone needs any information please feel freel to pm me, or leave a message on the phone number supplied on the entry form and someone will get back to you as as possible. See y'all there.

I might participate also.

I wanted to add that while the state limit for kokes is 25, the rules for this tourny state:

7. Weigh in limits 5 fish per day ***WEIGH IN LIMIT MAY INCLUDE 1 extra Chinook for the Large Chinook 50/50 draw total of 5/6***

8. You are not permitted to hold any fish with the intention of releasing it later for a larger fish. Once you land a fish you must decide to keep it or release it.

Graphite
Don't confuse weigh in limits with catch limits. Because ODFW regs state that 25 kokanee and chinook in combination may be taken, then that is what you are allowed to catch. You may only weigh in your 5 largest kokanee for the first thru 10th place derby payouts. You may also weigh in one chinook for the 50/50 side pot if you paid to do that. The chinook does not get weighed in with your kokanee but separately. Rule #8 is there to prevent "culling", particularly when you have 24 fish in the boat. Hope this clears things up for you.

Sunnyside Park is a Linn County Park by reservation for onite camping; not sure about day use but probably OK. There is a very nice boat launch onto Foster Reservoir(planted rainbow only) as well. There is also a nice fish cleaning station near boat ramp. Great picnic area. It is on the same road that goes to Green Peter but only about two miles off the highway out of Sweet Home.

I think you would be surprised on the number of different species of game fish that live in Foster...very surprised.
