Thanks to Rogue Rick for finding this site and letting members know about the Kokanee Derby hosted by Kokanee Power of Oregon. A background of our organization can be found on our website Kokanee Power of Oregon and a derby entry form, and membership form are available there as well. Another website that will take you directly to the entry form is http://www.kokaneepower.org/derbies/20080726.pdf. Rick pretty much has the basics covered, $400 first place and paying down to 10th. There will be two 50/50 side pots available at $5 each for a Blind Bogey and largest chinook. Additionally we will have a bunch of neat raffle prizes available to win. Lunch will be included with your entry fee. If after reading the rules on the entry form or if you have any questions regarding the derby contact me at capron6@yahoo.com or 707-350-3430 to leave a message and I will return your call.

This is our first Kokanee Derby to be held by Kokanee Power of Oregon and should be a fun time. After seeing the interest here and on other websites and talking to other interested fishermen we already have 12 to 15 boats with two entrants per boat that verbally say they will attend. Look forward to seeing some OFF members present. We should have a great time.

Just a little advice for some of the more "green" kokanee fisherfolks out there - Because we are all in boats, troll, slow, real real slow. Troll in curves too. Cover more water than straight lining it. I would recommend oars for small enough boats. Kokanees seem to need enticing, not territorial invasion to strike like a steelie lets say. They like 50 or so degree water, so we will need to find the band and hang or bait and lures in it. Kokanee aren't real snatch and grabbers either, so light tackle and a sensitive rod tip. Be careful when you set the hook, they have delicate mouths. I caught one at L. Billy one time and had to lift it out of the water and up a small cliff, and it shook once and the hook ripped out, so be careful and use nets to get them into the boat so you don't lose any. Kokes are great fun and bring your kids, great fishing for smaller less enthusiastic anglers. Until they hook one and the fish comes reelin out of the water every 15 seconds! Just to let everyone know I'm not a kokanee pro, but i have caught well in excess of 300 of these guys since i learned to fish at lake Merwin. (Limits used to be 25)

Barb - No problem! I just remember the first time I went fishing, and for an hour I hated sitting in the freezing boat with pops, then the first kokanee hit my sweet ninja turtle pole! The fishing didn't let up all day and I was "hooked" on fishing right there. I have been an avid koke fisherperson for close to 10 years...These are the fish I learned on, and have a bunch of time hunting them. I have recieved so much valuable info here, it is the least I can do. Kokanee are hard to nail down at first, but once you find a school it is so fun trying to chase them around the lakes. I figure everyone should at least know a few pertinent pieces of kokanee fishing info. Good luck to all who attend...Hope to see some of you there!!!

Just wanted to update everyone. Word hasn't been out too long and we have 8 entries so far. Pretty good odds when we pay down to 10th place, huh? I know, you alot of you guys just haven't sent out your entry form yet. Don't be too late!!! Word has it that there will be at least two tackle manufacturers present that will be providing some gear for our raffles.

Also, one important note: Weigh in will be held at Sunnyside Park in the day use picnic circle since there really isn't enough space up at Green Peter. So make sure you allow enough time to make the trip down there.

When you submit your application please provide an email address and I will send you an attachment with some further info.

In advance I thank all of you for your participation.

Default GP Kokanee Derby

Just found this website..been using Ifish.net with good info there as well. Limit at GP remains at 25 to include chinook. (Kok and Chinook) plus I believe 5 rainbow. Word of caution if not been there before: two launches...Thistlecreek at MP 10 and one more couple of miles down road that name escapes me. Not much que up room at dock so need to get in and out fast..the challenge will be recreational boaters on the weekend..so, don't know what time derby starts, but would be there early and anticipate some delay pulling out as you time your weigh in..great place to fish, particularly on week days.
