Thumbs up Erma Bells

Erma Bells lakes with Otter lake all with in two hours of Portland and not a bad hike, the trail head has camping and day use areas; all three lakes start from there. Very beautiful old growth forest and CutThroat Trout, very nice sized ones. Bank angling is difficult but doable, great in a float tube. Hope you have a great time where ever you go. Although this time of year and the weather we have been having...very iffy.

Chuck

Don't get me wrong EE Wilson is an awesome little pond, but I don't think it's what most people have in mind when they think hike in. And I hate to say it but it's probably also not worth the drive from Portland; Vernonia, Trojan, Bethany, Commonwealth, and Hagg are all just as good with considerably less driving and probably just as big of a crowd, as the 1/2mi hike at EE doesn't seem to discourage too many.

I have a good link around here for some hikes with lakes around Dee, OR the name of the one I'm planning on hitting first is Wahtum lake. I'll see if I can't find the web page I know I have around here somewhere....

Edit: That didn't take me very long, Northwest Hiker presents Hiking in the Mt Hood National Forest of Oregon

Default Old Salmon River Trail

If you head toward Mt. Hood, it's about an hour from Portland. Exit at Welches (Thriftway on right) and follow the road down the hill past the golf course (I'm pretty sure there's signs if you have to turn, but think it's the same road.) Park and hike as far as you want, the scenery is great.
