Good morning folks,

Just moved to Albany and a couple of questions, what is the preferred method for fishing for springers from a boat from Jefferson on down?

Thanks!!!

Not sure about the Santiam basin, but on the upper Willy and McKenzie we used kwiks. K14 or so in size, any color combo that features silver and chartreuse, and wrapped with sardine. Backtroll them through travel lanes or holding areas. Bobber and cured eggs is also good in deep holes where fish stack up.

Good luck!

Never fished it. On the Clack out of a drift boat... pretty much what Eugene said, except we tone it down to K11s or Maglip 3.5s. Then stop in the major holding spots and beat the water with spinners/whatever. With some sort of scent (Smelly Jelly in whatever flavor works well) on the BOTTOM of the plug (like on the shank of the front hook). Usually works pretty well -- but springer fishing can be pretty hit-and-miss.

Summers hit them, too.

Find a guide that works that section of the river. Best way to learn.
