Default Willamette Sturgeon 3/8/08

a buddy and i went to the Willy in early march and had a great trip. it was my first sturgeon adventure so it was an all new game for me. my bass fishing partner gave me the full "dude" treatment so that was fun too. we launched at the st. john's brigde and thankfully got there late, around 7, so we didn't have to fight the crowd. we went about a mile or so upstream and anchored in 65' of water. we got bit right away on Wayne's pickeled squid, but couldn't get a hookup. we moved a 100 yards and Wayne set on one and the fight was on. a 30" shaker eventually came to the boat and was released. we got bit many more times and after a few hours of no more hookups we were burning through bait quickly so we made a call to some friends who were on the water as well. they had 19 shakers and no keepers. we boated over to them and anchored up next to them, about 1/2 mile from the columbia, right in the channel in 55' of water. boom, boom, boom! in an hour we had 15 shakers in the boat with a couple of doubles thrown in for fun. our friends had a triple of shakers. it was a great trip and lots of fun. here are some gps coords of the two "secret" spots. they should get you close to the areas.

Nice report basslips. It's always fun learning a new style of fishing...and even more fun when there is a decent amount of action. That's awfully nice of you to give up the coordinates...that good karma will set you up for later. Thanks for the report and the pics.

Default Coords and boat

the willamette fishing spots are no secret spots. if you are in a boat and have a fishfinder, putt around where you see alot of boats anchored and check depths and structure types. then either anchor up or look for similar areas and depths. you may find our own "secret spot".

the boat is a fully restored Harvey Dory. nice boat and great job on the restoration.

tight lines.............
