Bank fishing below the falls for Sturgeon on Sat morning. The air was crisp the sun was shinning and I was ready to fight a big one! Armed with pickled squid I begin the hunt at 7AM. I get a few bites and miss them badly. I decide to change the way I position the squid on my hook and use a little stretch wrap to prevent further theft of my expensive tentacled bait. Not ten minutes later I see the rod bounce the familiar tap tap tap! I reach down to feel the reel and wait for the next bounce. Tap tap tap, I pounce and set the hook. What greets me is the long strong pull of a Willamette White Sturgeon. It feels like a big one! I set my drag to what I thought would be adequate. I was wrong!! The beast turned and with him twenty yards of line. I adjusted the drag and returned fire, he slowed for a short while before charging across river again. I leave the drag as is seeing the beast is not winning. I raise and reel and take line, the fish pulls and runs and takes back what freedom he can. We exchange fire for twenty minutes before he starts to feel the wrath of my 12ft extra heavy ugly stick loaded with 60lb mono. My shoulders burn my back aches. He starts to yield. I see him ripple the surface twenty feet from shore and I start to get really excited. I think to myself "this is the one!" Ten minutes later I pull the beast to shore. What lay before me is 55" of prehistoric wonder. After a call to my uncle for advice I choose to harvest my first sturgeon. He weighed 45lbs unofficially. What a fight, what fish, and what a great day! Needless to say I am pretty proud of this one!! My biggest catch ever!! sorry the pics are so big

DDR I am not sure where you live. shoot me a PM and I will tell you how to get to the area that holds Sturgeon. For good of my hide I can't tell you the exact spot I caught this one, but I can give you some ideas on what to look for. PS I caught that sturg before the rain came. Now that the water is higher and moving faster I havn't caught a damn thing. So make sure you have a lot of lead weight too. Like 10oz sinkers.
