Default First keeper...

So the hubby finally catches his first keeper this year, and we've been fishing since the end of March. For some reason, Saturday the 17th...was a great day for him. We started fishing around 1pm, after 1hr 1/2 he had his first bite, then reeled in 6 sturgeons (shakers) till he landed a 43" at 6pm. Excited...hoping it'd be like that all the time, so I could get my tagging license if he caught his 5. So the next day we started fishing from 8am till 5pm. NOTHING!!! Not even a bite...I was so disappointed.

The day he landed that 43" he snagged something...and ended up pulling in a dead sturgeon caught up in a bunch of line and a long piece of wood. Came back the next morning...and noticed it was gone...I think someone threw it back in the water...ew. Maybe we should have just bagged it and threw it away, just so that wouldn't have happened. But it was decaying and smelled really bad. Poor fish...

On a brighter note; I'll be posting pics soon. Oh yeah, that Sunday when he didn't have any luck...I actually caught a baby sturgeon just messing around and fishing with worms...ha ha

Thats Awesome, Good job!
It's too bad to hear about the dead fish, I havent snagged a dead sturgeon yet but get atleast one dead salmon per year.. Did the poor fish get tangled or was if fair hooked and got itself wrapped around the piece of wood where it got stuck?

Way to go on getting the keeper.

Sorry to hear about the slow sunday. Something that may help is to not keep your bait in one place for too long if your not getting bites.

Welcome to the site.

The sturgeon was hooked and got snagged while getting reeled in on other lines that were stuck on a piece of log at the bottom. Sad site to see...

I'm hoping to go fishing tomorrow or friday...and sat...hehe...

poor fish. hate to hear of something like that. atleast in a river system it will get eaten and go to "good" use.
Maybe I'll see you out there tomorrow or friday - I stay off the water on weekends lately It's not worth dealing with so many people that aren't sure what they're doing.
Good luck getting another keeper!
