Default Coming for a visit, could use some advise.

Hi guys. My name is Greg and I live in Calgary Alberta up in Canada. I'm coming to Hillsboro to see my new granddaughter. I'll be around for the next week and a half or so and I would like to do some steelhead fishing while I'm in State. Any tips or hints on where to go and what to use would be greatly appreciated. I see there is a sportsman's show on this week and I'll be sure to check it out. If any of you would be inclined to take an "alien" fishing, I would certainly reciprocate if you were ever to visit Calgary. I'm a potter by trade but I also work part time in the fishing department at Bass Pro. I plan on bringing a steelhead rod with a Shimano Stradic 4000 and a trout rod and reel as well, so I have my own gear. As I said any help at all would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks Greg

Forget the show, dont waste presious time. Spend time on the Wilson, Trask or Nestucca. All are not far from where you will be. Or check out the lower Williamette for sturgeon. I use medium salmon gear for sturgeon, makes it alot more fun.

Try floating jigs under a float, tossin metal (spinners), or my favorite just drift fishin bait (I like nightcrawlers cause eggs can be expensive).

Good luck. Let us know how you made out

Thanks for the quick responses and the advise. Are there any good tackle stores in the Hillsboro, Beaverton area where I can get a map of the area? Thanks

First OFF, welcome to the forum. Second, there's an interactive map for the Wilson that could prove to be valuable for someone coming from out of state. If I wasn't tied up with a move for the next week, I might even take you up on the offer to take you fishing. Maybe next week I'll be clear.

Thanks for the welcome and the friendly responses. I can't believe how nice the weather is here. We are still ice fishing with three feet of ice in Alberta.

Autofisher: do you have a link for that map? I have been here a few times because my son lives in Hillsboro and have fished the Colombia for sturgeon and off the mouth for salmon. I have a decent boat (18ft Crestliner) that I will bring with me next time I drive down. Now that I have a granddaughter to visit, it will definitely be more often. Does anyone fish for Walleye here? I hear there are some monsters in the Columbia.

If anyone wants to go fishing in the next week and wouldn't mind me tagging along, I am more than willing to share gas and expenses.
    Thanks again
    Greg
