new to steelhead

hey I'm new to steelhead fishing I I've read about a bunch of techniques but am not sure what to do what technique do you use how do you use them

Well i usually use a steelhead jig. It's really simple and fun to use. Plus it's very productive. You can use shrimp, eggs, and even a night crawler. Some people use just a corky and yarn. The possibilities are really endless. Go to yahoo and type in steelhead techniques. A bunch of web sites will pop up and you can browse through. If you go to a tackle shop and ask the same question they will be able to assist you in buying your tackle. Once your on the river don't be afraid to talk to the other guy's fishing. More often than not they have fished the river before and will give good advise. Good luck!

I use lures slow reeling and close to bottom. I also like a corky and yarn with a worm or some eggs. make sure not to use to much weight if you are getting hung up alot then cuss a whole bunch and then cut of some of your weight use hollow lead core its cheap and you can crimp directly to line. Bobber and jigs as the jarhead said is a good bet but it does not float my boat but i hear its deadly. You can also pull plugs threw the big holes or a smaller spin n glow plunked on the bottom with enought weight to hold it down. Im far from a expert but if you have any more questions feel free to ask for more detailed information.

I am a spinner man for Steelhead, they are deadly when fished slow and deep like Wilson says. Be prepared to lose some until you can tell the bottom from the fish..I lost so many that I started making my own spinners, actually I am getting pretty good at it, and I buy the parts in bulk and have the cost down to about 12 cents per unit. Thats with florescent paint and true ball bearing swivels, glass beads and stainless steel wire. Some of them turn out so sweet that I have tried to get my wife to wear them as earrings, maybe some day.
