I dropped in at the Cabela's in Lacie WA on my way back from working up there for a week.
![]() The only thing that saved me (meaning my wallet and checking account) is that there is too much stuff up there to choose from. A kid in a candy store doesn't even come close. Fishing lines, reels, lures, waders.. on and on... So you've been warned, if you are like me - stay away or else! ![]() |

hahah I know the feeling. When I was 16 I had finished working for the last year and a half for a feed store bucking hay and everything else, pretty much the grunt. Also with a contractor framing houses, roofing, sheetrocking etc (we built the new structure for the feed store is how I got the job) and had managed to save up like $1600 or so. I then went with my grandparents to drive to Florida where they wintered, but first we drove to Michigan. Grand Rapids, Michigan. The city with the Gander Mountain outlet store... I was going to Florida to fish and spend time with my grandparents, so I had taken all my tackle with me. I show up at Gander Mountain with the intention of buying a few bass lures, maybe some line because we were staying with some of their friends who lived on a lake, and well I pretty much got owned. I walked out of there with a new rod, reel, line, and a tackle box (the HUGE gray and blue one with the flip-down front and all the drawers) just full of stuff. I couldn't stop myself!!!! I almost bought a fish-finder and I didn't even have a boat... I suspect they pump in some kind of drug through the air conditioner. I think it was four or five hundred I spent. After that, I gave my grandmother the rest of my traveler's checks for safe keeping until we got to Florida...
![]() What's funny is I was flying back to Oregon, and after 3 months fishing the bay in Florida I had accumulated so much gear I had to mail it back through UPS. I was talking to my uncle after I made it to Oregon and was complaining about how much it cost to mail just my tackle box, and he asked me one simple question: "Well, did you take all the lead out of it first?" ![]()

I forced myself to drive past today. I do bulk mail runs for my work from Portland to Seattle. I see it coming and my arms start to steer toward the off ramp. But I must resist! I have to wait and save up to drop a huge bomb on the contents of my bank account. I have a hard enought time leaving Fishermans empty handed. I am in BIG trouble!

I ALWAYS walk out of Fisherman's with so much stuff...most of it which I never use. My dad has always said, "Son, it catches more fisherman than it does fish!" I want to go to Cabela's SO bad...and I think its worth the drive, but I keep hearing my dad's phrase. But I need salmon gear SO bad...I'm a strictly trout fisherman going to try steelhead and salmon this season! Wish me luck!.....so now where do I start? what do I get? Oh man......
